President Claudia Sheinbaum announced at the morning conference this Tuesday that the Executive Power decided not to invite Norma Piña, president minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, nor the rest of the Court's ministers, to the event commemorating the anniversary of the Mexican Constitution that will take place tomorrow, February 5, in Querétaro. Sheinbaum pointed out: "We are republicans and we are respectful, but we also ask for respect," thus explaining the reason behind this decision.
These statements arise amid tensions between Sheinbaum and the Judicial Power, following criticisms received during the preparation process for this year's controversial judicial election. Regarding alleged irregularities in the appointment of candidates, the president cleared doubts and denied intervening in favor of the Morena party and its supporters. "I did not participate in any way in the process, many of those who came out I do not know and I do not know who they are; I will just review their resumes and profiles to identify who is going to participate," she stated before those present.
Sheinbaum clarified that the selection of candidates was made by the corresponding commission through a lottery, and that the names provided by the Court had already been "scratched out," according to her statements after the legislative draw was held. In this regard, she expressed her surprise at the reduced list of names sent by the Court from among the three thousand initial candidates and questioned why this situation does not cause concern. She explained that now the commissions of the Executive and Legislative Power will work with the final names for the appointment process.
