Governor Mauricio Kuri announced that the Institute of Sport and Recreation of the State of Querétaro (INDEREQ) will take control of the Querétaro Marathon. This decision comes after the arrest of Abel "N", a former official of José Calzada Rovirosa's administration and a collaborator in organizing the event.
Kuri clarified that Abel "N"'s case is a legal matter he must face individually and is not related to the state government or the Querétaro Prosecutor's Office, as it is a process handled by the Mexico City Prosecutor's Office. The governor mentioned: "I have known him since he was very young, but these are legal issues he will have to confront."
In light of the uncertainty surrounding the marathon's continuity, Kuri expressed his confidence in INDEREQ, noting that they have the necessary capacity to manage the logistics and execution of the event. He stated: "I am sure they can move forward by doing and organizing it."
The Querétaro Marathon is the most important sporting event in the state, and its last edition brought together 18,500 runners in distances of 5, 10, 21, and 42 kilometers. Since its first edition in 2010, this event has become an annual tradition, accumulating 15 years of history.
