In the Reynosa neighborhood, located in the eastern part of the municipality of the same name in the state of Tamaulipas, a man died after being attacked by a swarm of Africanized bees. The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon while the man was walking on Patricia Street and the swarm, apparently coming from an abandoned vehicle, completely engulfed him, leaving him no chance to escape.
Eyewitnesses alerted the authorities, but by the time emergency crews arrived on the scene, the victim had already lost his life. Personnel from Civil Protection and Firefighters of Reynosa mobilized to control the insects and recover the body, a task that extended for more than two hours due to the swarm's aggressiveness.
"Upon arrival of the emergency team, unfortunately, there was a loss of life after suffering a direct attack from them," indicated Civil Protection and Firefighters of Reynosa on social media. The State Attorney General's Office arrived at the scene to carry out the removal of the corpse and take it to the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO), while also initiating the corresponding investigations.
To prevent further incidents, the area was cordoned off while containment efforts were underway. Authorities reminded the population of the high aggressiveness of Africanized bees, noting that their defense may involve the entire hive if they feel threatened.
Civil Protection and Firefighters of Reynosa issued a call to citizens to act with caution in the presence of swarms. They recommended staying calm, avoiding sudden movements, slowly moving away from the area, covering the head and face if necessary, seeking shelter in an enclosed space, and immediately contacting emergency numbers if a swarm is detected near their surroundings.
