Salamanca Prepares for 2025 Pilgrimage

More than 10,000 pilgrims are expected to transit through the city during a specific period. To ensure their safety and well-being, the Health Secretariat of Guanajuato has launched the Pilgrim Operation 2025, which will extend until January 24. The Health Risks team will carry out inspections at food and non-alcoholic beverage stands to ensure adequate hygienic conditions.

The Health Jurisdiction V Salamanca, in collaboration with different areas, coordinates efforts to provide comprehensive care to the groups of pilgrims passing through Guanajuato. Institutions such as the National Guard participate in security aspects, Civil Protection, Public Services, among others, each with specific tasks to supervise the established routes and ensure safe transit.

In Salamanca, one of the first stops for pilgrims on their route to the shrine of San Juan de los Lagos, a fixed assistance module has been set up to offer rest, basic services, and medical assistance if needed. The pilgrimage is one of the most significant expressions of faith in the region.

Religious tourism has a significant impact on Guanajuato, attracting millions of visitors annually. Events such as the pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Cristo Rey and the pilgrimage to the temple of the Virgin of San Juan de los Lagos contribute to the growth of the tourism segment. As part of the Pilgrim Operation 2025, hygiene supplies will be distributed among merchants and pilgrims, and medical checks will be conducted to detect possible symptoms of illness.

Authorities from all three levels of government recently met to coordinate logistical actions for the operation. Waste disposal, chlorination of water intended for human consumption will be supervised, and efforts will be made to maintain a safe and healthy environment for both pilgrims and the local community during this large pilgrimage.
