Last weekend, a tragic event occurred at the multipurpose courts in the San José de Mendoza community in Salamanca, Guanajuato, where seven people were killed and five were injured during an attack carried out by an armed group.

According to eyewitness testimonies, the armed group rushed into the place and began shooting at the players and spectators who were at the courts engaging in sports matches. The violent incident took place just before 8:00 PM on Sunday, March 16, causing chaos and despair among those present.

Amidst the screams and confusion, children and adults tried to escape or protect themselves, however, many people were hit by bullets. Four people died at the scene, while eight others were quickly transported to hospitals in Salamanca, some by their own means.

Given the seriousness of the situation, an immediate response was deployed by the National Guard, the Secretary of National Defense, and the Red Cross, after receiving emergency calls to the 911 Emergency System. So far, the Attorney General's Office of Guanajuato has not provided further details about the violent attack.

Due to the lack of additional information from the authorities, the community of San José de Mendoza and Salamanca in general remain shocked by this tragic event that has mourned several families.
