
American companies continue to invest and expand their businesses in Mexico, with strategic location and skilled labor being key factors for their preference. Although labor is no longer as cheap in some sectors, it remains attractive to firms from the United States and other parts of the world. The President of the United States, Donald Trump, on the other hand, has expressed his discontent about this, even threatening to impose higher tariffs on Mexico.
During the past year, Mexican companies mainly opted to invest in Spain and the United States, with a total of 18 and 17 transactions respectively. However, in terms of value, the United States stood out with 2.272 billion dollars invested. On the other hand, the United States was the country that made the most acquisitions in Mexico, with 85 transactions totaling 1.851 billion dollars, followed by Spain with 20 transactions. These numbers position the United States as a leader in this aspect.
Regionally, Colombia ranked fourth in the number of transactions, while Argentina held the fifth position. Mexico was surpassed by Chile in the ranking of Latin American countries with the highest dynamism in the transactional market during 2024, although it was able to increase the capital mobilized compared to the previous year. Brazil led the table as the most active country in the region.
Regarding mergers and acquisitions, the software and real estate industries were the most active, with a total of 58 and 45 transactions respectively. These sectors are expected to experience significant movements in the coming months.
In another area, the Supreme Court of Mexico ruled this week on the waiving of rents in cases of force majeure, opening the possibility of reducing or exempting rent payments when the tenant cannot use the rented property due to unforeseen circumstances, such as the Covid-19 pandemic.
Additionally, changes were announced in the management of companies such as Mercedes-Benz Buses Mexico, which appointed Holger Duerrfeld as the new general director. Duerrfeld has extensive experience in the company and takes on the role after leading Daimler Buses France.
