The reporter and administrator of the portal Silaoense.mx, Kristian Uriel Martínez, was murdered in the early morning of Sunday, March 2, in the El Condado de la Pila neighborhood in Silao, Guanajuato. Martínez, known for his journalistic work and for participating in events as a DJ, was shot alongside another person while they were inside a vehicle.
After the attack, the driver of the car lost control and crashed into a brick altar and subsequently into a tree. The attack, which occurred at 1:21 a.m., was carried out by armed men who fired from another moving vehicle. It is known that Martínez had already requested protection under the journalist safety protocol in 2021 due to previous threats.
The news of Kristian Uriel Martínez's murder has caused shock in the journalistic community and in society in Silao, Guanajuato. In response to this act of violence, the government of Silao has committed to collaborating with the investigations, while the prosecution has taken the case. This tragic event adds to a worrying series of attacks against journalists in Guanajuato, such as the recent attack against Jesús “El Llanero Solitito”, a reporter from Celaya, who was assaulted while traveling in a traffic patrol.
