The mayor of Tecate, Román Cota, shared the results of his first year in office, marked by a 180-degree turn in priorities and achievements. The main challenge was the restructuring of the municipal police, which went from having the lowest salaries in the state to being above the average. New benefit packages, including a pension fund, were implemented, and the retirement of the first 20 police officers is planned, a milestone for the city. Despite the staffing crisis, concrete results were achieved in security: there was a 40% reduction in intentional homicides compared to the same period last year. Additionally, the administration focused on improving infrastructure, repairing over 80,000 square meters of roads—more than in the previous three years. The number of garbage collection trucks was also increased, and programs for the improvement of public spaces with citizen participation were launched. Cota emphasized that the successes were possible thanks to unprecedented coordination with the state government and a focus on three main axes: security, roadways, and quality services. Despite the positive trend, the mayor noted that the work continues and urged citizens not to be pessimistic, relying on real statistics.
