Protests Erupt in Tecámac over Safety Concerns

Residents of the Real Firenze subdivision in Tecámac, State of Mexico, are protesting on Av. Boulevard and Av. The reason for the protest is alleged abuses by municipal authorities, according to +Media. The protesters report intervention by the municipality in the administration and seizure of the clubhouse, among other issues. They state that for the past week, access to the subdivision has been controlled by unidentified civilians, preventing the hired private security from doing their job.

The residents demand dialogue with state and municipal authorities to improve security in their communities. Additionally, they accuse the local government of authorizing a new board of directors that took control of the administration of the housing unit, causing the current conflict.

In a statement circulated by the Real Firenze Directing Committee on social media, they request respect for the autonomy of civil associations and demand that they refrain from imposing boards of directors within the subdivision. Some of the protesters' banners read phrases like “We lived well, until the Government intervened.”

In the same vein, they report being victims of false accusations, extortion, and fabrication of crimes by the State of Mexico Prosecutor's Office. In their statement, they express feeling constantly threatened, which jeopardizes their right to work with dignity and security.

The concessionaire company of the Mexico-Pachuca highway has advised users to take alternate routes to avoid the area affected by the protest. The protesters, from the Real Firenze subdivision, have threatened to march to the Secretariat of the Interior if their concerns are not addressed.

This protest adds to other recent demonstrations in the State of Mexico, such as the blockade by transport workers on the Mexico-Pachuca highway demanding justice for a case involving an abused minor. These situations have caused traffic disruptions at various points in the state.
