The Attorney General's Office of the State of Mexico reported that it has initiated an official investigation following allegations of alleged extortion, abuse of authority, and other illegal conduct attributed to members of the institution in the Tecámac region and surrounding areas. According to the official communiqué, the investigation has been entrusted to the Corruption Prosecutor's Office. As a first measure, 10 elements of the Investigation Police have been suspended from their duties and concentrated in central offices while their possible involvement in the facts reported on social networks and in the media is determined. The public servants removed include a regional coordinator, three group leaders, and six investigating agents. The State Prosecutor's Office specified that these actions seek to clarify the veracity of the allegations and determine responsibilities. At present, ten elements of the Investigation Police are suspended from their duties while their probable involvement in possible criminal acts is determined. Likewise, the agency indicated that investigative actions continue to establish if other public servants or people external to the institution may have participated in the reported conduct. The case arose after publications denouncing alleged extortion practices by ministerial agents, which prompted the immediate intervention of internal control areas. The State Prosecutor's Office of Mexico reiterated that any action outside the legal framework will be sanctioned in accordance with the law. In its statement, it emphasized that 'the actions of its public servants must be carried out in adherence to the current constitutional and legal framework, always with respect for human rights.' Finally, the institution urged citizens who have been victims or witnesses of these events to file a complaint through the official channels, such as the email cerotolerancia@fiscaliaedomex.gob.mx, the telephone number 800 702 8770, or the FGJEdomex application.
