The former non-commissioned officer of the now-defunct Federal Police, Iván Morales Corrales, a survivor of an attack by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in 2015, was murdered in Temixco, Morelos. Morales Corrales had to undergo several surgeries for the burns he suffered in the previous attack.
The unfortunate event occurred on Wednesday, April 30, when Morales Corrales was traveling in a pickup truck with a woman in the Las Brisas subdivision and they were approached by an armed group. In a violent attack, the former officer and his companion were executed by gunfire, while the armed group escaped on motorcycles. Authorities later confirmed that one of the deceased was Morales Corrales.
The tragic fate of Morales Corrales contrasts with his bravery and dedication to public service. After the 2015 incident, where he nearly lost his life during a failed operation to capture 'El Mencho', leader of the CJNG, Morales Corrales demonstrated a strong spirit of service to his country. He was honored by former president Enrique Peña Nieto for his bravery.
The operation in which Morales Corrales was seriously injured took place nearly a decade ago, on May 1, 2015. He was traveling in a Federal Police helicopter that was shot down in Villa Purificación by CJNG hitmen to prevent the capture of 'El Mencho'. Morales Corrales suffered burns on 70% of his body in that attack.
Manelich Castilla Craviotto, former general commissioner of the Federal Police, expressed his sorrow over the death of Morales Corrales, highlighting his bravery and spirit of service. The pickup truck, motorcycles, and weapons used in the recent homicide were abandoned in the city by those responsible.
