Assassination of Ex-Police Officer Ivan Morales in Temixco

The assassination of former police officer Iván Morales raises concerns over safety. He was executed in Temixco, Morelos. Investigations are ongoing.

The head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) of Morelos, Miguel Ángel Urrutia Lozano, has assured that the case of the murder of Iván Morales is not forgotten and is being closely investigated.

The former sub-official of the extinct Federal Police, Iván Morales Corrales, was the victim of a double homicide last Wednesday, April 30, in the Las Brisas subdivision, Temixco, Morelos. He was traveling in a truck with a woman when an armed group intercepted them and shot at least 15 times before escaping on motorcycles. The vehicles, the truck, and the weapons used in the crime were abandoned in the city.

On May 1, 2015, Iván Morales was in a Federal Police helicopter during an operation attempting to capture Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. The aircraft was shot down by a group of hitmen in Villa Purificación, resulting in the death of several officers and leaving Morales with severe burns that required multiple surgeries.

The team led by Omar García Harfuch will carry out the investigations into Morales' murder, Urrutia Lozano reported. They have been working closely with the peace and security table to gather relevant information about the case. García Harfuch is expected to report on the progress of the investigation next Thursday, May 8, highlighting the importance of the case and the confidentiality of the information to protect the inquiries.
