Sandra Rosa Camacho Flores, former candidate for mayor of Temoac, Morelos, for the Labor Party (PT), union leader and activist, was shot dead this Thursday, March 26. The attack occurred at 2:30 PM in the San José neighborhood, and it is the second political assassination so far this year. Reports from the Secretariat of Security indicate that gunshots were heard on Privada Terán, after which armed subjects allegedly intercepted Camacho Flores and opened fire directly before fleeing. Despite the rapid mobilization of emergency services, paramedics who arrived at the scene confirmed the death of Sandra Rosa Camacho. Temoac has become a territory where control is disputed at gunpoint. The area was immediately cordoned off by elements of the Police and the Mexican Army, while experts from the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) began collecting ballistic evidence. Last August, Camacho had asked the governor, Margarita González, to reinforce security in the municipality due to various violent incidents, and she also publicly denounced the collection of 'protection money' from businessmen and public figures. Her murder adds to that of Oviel 'N', former PRI candidate for mayor of Temoac, whose body was found at the end of January in the community of Tetelilla, belonging to the neighboring municipality of Jonacatepec. The violence situation in Temoac has worsened in recent months. Accusations against the mayor and his inner circle range from omission in the face of organized crime to alleged collusion, which has created a power vacuum and widespread distrust among the population. Violence in the eastern part of Morelos is not an isolated phenomenon. However, the mayor's environment is not only marked by victimization but also by serious judicial allegations. The Lavín Romero administration has been caught in crossfire due to the detention of former municipal officials linked to illicit activities. The combination of extortion, political assassinations, and the apparent weakness of local institutions has left the population in total vulnerability. The current mayor, Valentín Lavín Romero, was also the target of an armed attack on January 31, an event that led him to request a leave of absence from the City Council for his recovery. Only in recent months, investigations by the state prosecutor's office have led to arrests that suggest the infiltration of criminal groups into the city council structure.
