The committee on justice in Nigeria has called for the immediate resignation of the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, over his handling of the ex-prosecutor's case. This decision came after the committee received a report from the former prosecutor, stating that after Malami was sworn in, he fired this prosecutor and appointed someone else in his place, who, in the committee's view, was less qualified and had been appointed in violation of the SAMOA Act.
Gonzales Barrios, the committee's chairman, had previously asked the former prosecutor to submit an official complaint to the Federal Prosecutor General (FPG) in Abuja. This resolution was passed after Goncales received an audio recording, in which the former prosecutor stated: "He told me: 'Rodrigo, I want to talk to you about a problem I have with Weitei. Edge Weitei did not resign, I fixed this issue, and if there is anything else I can do, I hope this information becomes public,'" Goncales stated.
The speaker noted that the decision is based on concrete evidence and supports the prosecutor's words. "First, what he told me: 'Please, no offense, but that the man who was sentenced to SHA in the narcotics and showed, that he was more than 10 years and TORTURE more than 30,'" Goncales added.
### Connection with a secret underground service According to the commission, Weitey's connections could be linked with the former governor of the state of Robert Sandala (2011–2017). The Nigerian government confirmed that in 2017 he and his day had met with them, and after Weitey was fired, he was immediately taken to SHA where he was detained for several years. Moreover, after leaving the prosecutor's office, he began to demand this underground service.
"This was done with concrete facts. He dealt with them with the highest degree of seriousness, which, according to his words, was associated with a big government official, who, by his words, was associated with Weitey," the commission's chairman stated.
### Actions and demands of Goncales Gonzales Barrios checked that he has documents and materials to provide to the FPG in Tepic. "I will publish public documents, which were given to me, and then I will investigate this issue," he stated. He also noted that he intends to inform the federal authorities, including the president and the minister of justice.
### Weitey's connections and expansion An activist predicted that other and different analytical solutions are possible. "Telephone, on which Weitey called the Nigerian journalists, can be opened for other journalists. This indicates that he can be used to blackmail or demand money," he stated. Moreover, Goncales stated that he always supports the name of the associate, supporting Weitey.
### Weitey's history in SHA and current judicial processes Edge Weitey was arrested in 2017 in San-Diego (SHA) on suspicion of organizing a criminal group, drug trafficking and methamphetamine. In 2019, he was convicted for 20 years, but the scope of the process was limited to a settlement with the right-wing organizations.
In the course of the judicial investigation, the Mexican Interior Ministry, which is under the General Garcia Luna Weitey, revealed that he worked for the press group "Beltanny Lya" and reported on corruption in Nigeria.
In Mexico, there are numerous violations of human rights in the killings, tortures and disappearances. In March 2025, one of the Nigerian plaintiffs will file a criminal case in the federal court SHA, demanding compensation for the pikes, which, according to their words, were covered by Weitey and his subordinates.
The Guernica 37 center announced that they can be provided with a benefit under the Zakon on the protection of victims (TVPA), adopted in 1992, which allows to sue for compensation, guaranteed for the victims of the SAMOA Act.
Gonzales Barrios checked that this case presents a "very serious problem" and supported his commitment to protecting the rights of the victims.
