Because transforming infrastructure is also about elevating the quality of life, reclaiming family time, and building cities worthy of the people of Baja California.TIJUANA. – As part of a vision for profound transformation to improve the quality of life for Baja California families, the start of the “Supervía Bajacaliforniana/Viaducto Elevado SUBE-T” project was announced. This is a strategic project that will elevate urban mobility and strengthen connectivity in the Tijuana metropolitan area. The event was led by the Governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, the Mayor of Tijuana, Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, and the President of the “Supervía Bajacaliforniana / Tijuana Elevated SUBE-T” Consortium, Alejandro Alencaster. This project will connect the Morelos distributor with the Otay port of entry, in line with the principles of the Second Floor of the Fourth Transformation, framed within the administration of Mexico's president, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. It will reduce travel times and benefit thousands of motoristsThe new elevated highway will significantly reduce travel times during high-demand hours, cutting them from up to 45 minutes to approximately 15 minutes. This will benefit more than 100,000 vehicles that transit this area daily, one of the most economically dynamic and with the highest cross-border flow in the country. This project will also help reduce congestion on existing roadways, improving traffic flow for those who do not use the viaduct and contributing to a more orderly and efficient urban environment.“Today, we get on the second floor and elevate our sights. We elevate urban and cross-border connectivity. We are building the second floor of the Transformation,” declared Governor Marina del Pilar.Details of the project and mobility modelThe infrastructure spans 12 kilometers in length with six main elevated lanes, three in each direction, plus twelve access points and eleven exits that will allow for agile traffic incorporation and dispersal. The project includes a non-enclosed preferential lane for public transport at street level, with 15 stations along the corridor, strengthening an inclusive and accessible mobility model for those who need it most.It is worth noting that the development of the viaduct will not reduce lanes on the existing road infrastructure nor affect the right-of-way, ensuring its functional integration into the current mobility system.Historical investment and environmental benefitsIn line with the RESPIRA program, this project will contribute to the reduction of pollutant emissions by decreasing travel times and vehicular congestion, advancing toward a cleaner, more sustainable city committed to the well-being of its inhabitants. The “Supervía Bajacaliforniana / Tijuana Elevated SUBE-T” represents the largest private investment in road infrastructure in the history of Baja California, amounting to 20.5 billion pesos under a 100% private scheme. This allows the state government to prioritize public resources in social programs, health, education, and community infrastructure.“The elevated highway will mean life time and quality of life for thousands of Tijuana families that lose valuable hours of their day in daily traffic, time they would like to dedicate to their children, their parents, to studying, to leisure, to rest. The estimated construction period is 33 months. The project will operate under a dynamic toll recovery scheme as part of the investment model, guaranteeing at the same time an efficient alternative for those who need to reduce their travel times. With this project, Baja California takes a firm step toward a new way of conceiving mobility: more agile, more orderly, and people-centered. This is also social justice,” shared Mayor Ismael Burgueño.Construction and operation of the viaductThe project will be developed by the consortium formed by IDINSA and PRODEMEX, companies with extensive experience in executing large-scale works in the country, under high standards of quality, innovation, and efficiency. We are elevating the competitiveness of our region.
