President Claudia Sheinbaum inaugurated the first stage of the Tijuana Elevated Viaduct, a strategic infrastructure project aimed at transforming mobility in the northern part of the country and improving connectivity in one of the areas with the highest vehicular traffic. The project will connect Tijuana International Airport with the beaches of Tijuana, the city center, and the San Ysidro port of entry, which will allow for the daily commutes of thousands of people to be expedited. According to authorities, travel time will be reduced from over an hour to just 12 minutes, representing a direct impact on the quality of life, economic activity, and urban development of the region. The work is being carried out by military engineers and will have a total length of 11 kilometers. During the inauguration ceremony, the engineer in charge of the project, General Raúl Manzano Vélez, explained that the viaduct will span a total of 11,368 meters with an average operating speed of 70 kilometers per hour, allowing the journey to be completed in approximately 12 minutes. Sheinbaum emphasized the social and symbolic significance of the project, being implemented in a border zone. She noted that California would not be what it is without its compatriots, the Mexican women and men who work on the other side. The president concluded by highlighting the values that, she said, distinguish Mexico: fraternity, love for one's neighbor, family, nature, and country. 'For Mexicans, bridges are always better than walls. Always building bridges is our principle,' she affirmed.
