The municipal president of Tlajomulco, Gerardo Quirino Velázquez, announced an investment of 10.99 million pesos for the construction of a platform and a perimeter wall that will protect the potable water macro tank of Cerro del Gato in the Chulavista subdivision. The goal is to ensure the water supply in the Valley area, where there has been a significant deficit in recent years.
"For the past 15 years since 100,000 homes were built here in the middle of nowhere, we have faced major challenges, including the water issue; more than 8 billion pesos have been invested over these years and we are about to finalize the possibility of having water in quality and quantity for the next 35 years here in this area," commented the mayor.
Along with these improvements, work will also be carried out to adapt and install infrastructures that guarantee the supply of potable water to the community. A storage tank with a capacity of 12 million liters of water extracted from Lake Chapala will be built to reduce the extraction from the groundwater aquifers of the region.
Additionally, the construction of an access road to the storage tank in the area near Cerro del Gato is planned, with an estimated completion date in February 2025. This initiative adds to other actions undertaken by Quirino in the Valley area, such as the resumption of operations of a wastewater treatment plant that functioned as a sanitary deposit, and now supplies treated water for various uses.
The rehabilitation of this plant had an investment of 14.63 million pesos, which was allocated for desilting, repair of tanks, electromechanical equipment, construction of an operations building, piping systems, connections, and the construction of a perimeter wall. With these projects underway, it is expected to significantly improve the water supply in sectors such as Lomas del Mirador, Hacienda Santa Fé, Chulavista, and Los Cántaros within Tlajomulco.
