Tlaquepaque City Council debates progressive rates

In a session of the full council of the Tlaquepaque City Hall, a proposal from the municipal president, Laura Imelda Pérez Segura, was discussed regarding the implementation of progressive rates on property tax. The purpose of this initiative is to establish a more equitable payment system according to the value of the properties.

The EMECIST faction, led by councilor Citlalli Amaya, opposed the proposal, labeling it as revenue-generating. The councilor expressed: "We are against it, they have a revenue-generating purpose for the residents of San Pedro Tlaquepaque, therefore, from Movimiento Ciudadano, we are against the increase in property tax."

On the other hand, the Morena councilor, José de Jesús Ramírez, highlighted the importance of understanding the concept of progressive taxes to ensure a fair distribution of payments based on income. Ramírez commented: "The purpose of progressive taxes is to achieve justice for the people of Tlaquepaque, so that not everyone pays the same."

The proposal in question aims to calculate the payment of property tax considering the value of the properties, which could result in a more significant increase for higher-value properties. Despite four councilors from Movimiento Ciudadano voting against it and one abstaining, the initiative will move forward for analysis in the corresponding committees.
