5.5 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Tlaxiaco

On the night of March 14, a magnitude 5.5 earthquake shook several states of Mexico, with its epicenter located 16 kilometers southeast of Tlaxiaco, in Oaxaca. Despite the intensity, no serious damage was reported in the areas affected by the tremor.

In response to the earthquake, Civil Protection protocols were activated in the State of Mexico, as well as in the municipalities of Morelos and Mexico City. Despite the activation of the seismic alert, no significant incidents were recorded in any of these areas.

In Mexico City, the Secretariat of Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection confirmed that there were no reports of damage in the capital, and the Fire Department conducted thorough inspections in the stations without finding any problems. Likewise, in the State of Mexico, composed of 125 municipalities, where 18 million people live, no damage was reported after the earthquake.

In Guerrero, the earthquake was also felt and safety protocols were implemented. Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda informed via social media about the actions taken. However, the independent platform SASSLA, which issues seismic alerts, notified that due to operational difficulties, its service was temporarily suspended, causing many users to miss the alert.

Despite the temporary interruption of the SASSLA platform service, it is expected to be restored soon. In light of the situation, communication has been maintained with the relevant authorities to rule out possible impacts and coordinate preventive actions.
