The municipality of Tolimán plans to develop a tourism project to promote the back side of the Peña de Bernal. The project, valued at 70 million pesos, has been presented to the state government and is currently under evaluation. The mayor, Alejo Sánchez de Santiago, mentioned that they are seeking federal resources to carry it out.
In an interview, Sánchez de Santiago stated: "We already have a project that requires a lot of resources and that we have channeled to the state government. It would be a detonator that could connect with Bernal and promote the unknown part of Tolimán." Although there is no established start date, the mayor expressed the importance of obtaining the necessary capital to carry out the project.
Furthermore, the municipality of Tolimán seeks to expand the tourism offer through Airbnb, making arrangements with migrants who have vacant properties for most of the year. The goal is to increase the number of rooms from 170 to 280, mainly in communities such as San Miguel, Higueras, El Sabino, and Casas Viejas.
To attract tourists, there are plans to build a trail connecting to the municipal head and promote activities such as cycling, hiking, and ecotourism. The mayor revealed they aim to consolidate a tourism corridor in the San Antonio de la Cal area to boost tourism in the region and highlight its part of the rock.
In summary, the municipality of Tolimán is working on tourism projects that seek to maximize the potential of the Peña de Bernal and attract more visitors to the region. Collaboration with the state government and the search for federal resources are key to achieving the planned tourism development.
