Civil Protection of the State of Mexico confirmed in a press release that a private jet caught fire this Monday in the community of San Pedro Totoltepec, in the municipality of Toluca, leaving six people dead as a preliminary toll.

The agency reported that the fire, caused by the impact, has been brought under control and cooling and cleanup operations are ongoing at the scene.

According to authorities, the aircraft involved is a Cessna Citation III, registration XA-PRO, which had departed from Acapulco bound for Toluca.

There were eight passengers and two crew members on board, the agency stated, and warned that the casualty figures are preliminary and could be updated as the investigation progresses.

The incident response is being coordinated through the C5 Toluca, with the activation of the Incident Command System.

The causes of the aviation incident have not been disclosed and remain under investigation by the relevant authorities.

As confirmed information becomes available, it is expected that the corresponding agencies will issue official updates.

The agency urged the public not to approach the incident site and to follow only information disseminated through official channels.

«We request that citizens avoid the area to avoid putting their integrity at risk and to allow the work of emergency services to proceed,» it stated in a press release.

State and municipal emergency corporations are participating in the operations, including Firefighters, the State of Mexico Emergency Service (SUEM), Municipal Public Security, the State of Mexico Security Secretariat (SSEM), and the Medical Emergency Regulation Center (CRUM).

Civil Protection also stated that it has the support of fire departments from Metepec, Toluca, and San Mateo Atenco, as well as the Relámpagos Group, the Navy Secretariat, and the National Guard, with the objective of securing the area, attending to possible injured, and mitigating additional risks.
