Mexico: Death toll in private jet crash rises to ten

Mexico City, Dec 16. All ten occupants of a private jet died in an accident that occurred on Monday when the aircraft crashed near Toluca International Airport (AIT), in the central State of Mexico, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced this Tuesday.

At her morning press conference at the National Palace, Sheinbaum stated that an expert report from the Attorney General's Office (FGR) is required before the cause of the aircraft's crash can be identified; although she admitted it could have been a technical failure.

«All died, including the pilot… The Attorney General's Office has to do it (the expert report),» said Sheinbaum, who detailed that it was a family traveling from Acapulco to Toluca, including three minors.

The president's update comes after a report issued on Monday by the State of Mexico's Civil Protection, which informed that the death toll had risen to seven after local emergency services located bodies at the impact site.

At that time, the authorities specified that the plane was carrying eight passengers, in addition to the pilot and co-pilot, for a total of ten people.

According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT), the accident occurred around 12:31 local time on Monday, south of the vicinity of Toluca International Airport, 65 kilometers west of Mexico City.

The aircraft involved was a Cessna Citation 650 model, with a route from the port of Acapulco (southwest) to Toluca (center), and emergency services and inter-institutional coordination were immediately activated, the SICT specified.
