In an emotional commemorative act for the International Day of Childhood Cancer Awareness, the brave girl Anette celebrated her recovery at the Children's Hospital of the State of Mexico Maternal and Child Institute (IMIEM) by ringing the bell that symbolizes the end of her oncological treatment, marking her victory over the disease.
The Secretary of Health of the State of Mexico, Macarena Montoya Olvera, was present at the Hemato-oncology Tower of the hospital to celebrate this important milestone. During the ceremony, Montoya Olvera praised the work of the medical staff who have tirelessly worked to improve the quality of life of cancer patients, highlighting the importance of early detection of childhood cancer to increase the success rates in treatment.
The director of IMIEM, Alfredo Cortés Algara, emphasized the harsh reality faced by thousands of children worldwide, mentioning that in Mexico there are five to six new cases of childhood cancer registered each year, with alarming statistics indicating that 70% of these cases are diagnosed at advanced stages, limiting effective treatment options.
In a gesture of solidarity, Montoya Olvera and Alfredo Jiménez García, president of the Volunteering and Humanism A.C. of the Health Institute of the State of Mexico (ISEM), witnessed the handing over of a donation of equipment and furniture for the Hemato-oncology area of the hospital, aimed at benefiting pediatric patients.
Subsequently, attendees left their handprints on a mural as a symbol of support for all the children fighting this difficult battle against cancer.
