President Claudia Sheinbaum clarified this Monday that the landing of a C-130 military plane in Toluca over the weekend was authorized last October and denied the arrival of U.S. troops. During her morning briefing at the National Palace, she explained that Mexican military personnel flew on this plane to the United States for training under the command of U.S. Northern Command and the State Department, as part of bilateral cooperation in security matters. She also pointed out that authorization from the Senate is required when it comes to training U.S. military personnel on Mexican soil, mentioning that there is a pending authorization for the Coast Guard. When asked if the plane will return within a month, the president stated that it will return in a month. She also acknowledged that her government was not notified in advance about the alert issued by the FAA regarding potential risks from military flights.
