The Spanish goalkeeper Pau López will join the Toluca team after Brazilian goalkeeper Tiago Volpi announced his departure from the club to sign with Grêmio for personal reasons. After three rounds in the 2025 Clausura Tournament of Liga MX, this news forced the Mexican team to seek a quality replacement in the winter transfer market.
With 318 matches in his career, López has conceded 405 goals and kept his goal clean on 83 occasions. His experience includes European clubs such as Real Betis, Roma, Tottenham, and Olympique de Marseille.
The Toluca management has reached an agreement with Olympique de Marseille and Girona to acquire the full rights of Pau López. The goalkeeper is expected to report to the Mexican team in the next few hours, although he may wait an additional day before joining the squad due to an important commitment from Girona in the Champions League.
Despite having played only two matches since his loan in the summer, López is expected to be the starter in the next match against Arsenal. His arrival will provide a quality boost to Toluca's team, and he is expected to take on the starting role after Paulo Gazzaniga's injury.
