Diego Valdés Faces Contract Challenges with Toluca

Diego Valdés, a key player for América, faces uncertainty as Toluca approaches for a contract agreement. After declining a pay raise, he may have limited options in the transfer market.

Diego Valdés Faces Contract Challenges with Toluca

Diego Valdés, the Chilean forward who was a key player since his arrival at América from Santos Laguna, was on the transfer list for this transfer window. After losing prominence due to an injury and being left out of the plans of head coach André Jardine, Valdés needed to find a new club before the market closed.

Toluca showed interest in the player and reached an agreement with América to take over the remaining 18 months of Valdés' contract and offer him an additional 18 months, thus completing a 3-year contract with a salary increase. However, surprisingly, the offer was declined by the player.

The Coapa team, which is starting its journey in the Clausura 2025 with good progress in Liga MX, had previously received an offer from Portland Timbers of MLS for less than 4 million dollars, but Valdés refused to leave. It seems that the Chilean wants to fight for his place in the team, despite the coach's plan not to include him for this tournament in order to use the foreign slot for another player.

This decision leaves the scorer with few options in the market, with Brazil and the United States being the only leagues that still have open registrations and could represent an opportunity for him.
