Students and teachers from the primary school 'Año de Juárez' in Torreón, Coahuila, experienced moments of terror last Tuesday when a fourth-grade student fired a weapon inside the educational facility. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
The events took place while the student was in their classroom, and witnesses reported that they took out a small-caliber weapon, which was discharged, causing the bullet to ricochet off the blackboard. Authorities from the primary school confirmed the situation through a statement on their official page, mentioning that the student endangered the entire school community by bringing a firearm to school.
In response to this event, the 'Healthy and Safe Backpack Operation' protocol was activated to ensure the safety of personnel, students, and parents. The Attorney General's Office of Coahuila opened an investigation file to determine the origin of the weapon and take measures against those responsible for any crimes that may arise from this incident.
The government of Coahuila reported that the appropriate protocol for this type of event was immediately activated, and the teaching staff talked with the student involved in the incident, successfully securing the weapon. Meanwhile, the students were sheltered, and local and state security authorities, as well as the Legal Directorate of the Ministry of Education, were informed.
