Lagobernadora Rocío Nahle inaugurated the fifteenth edition of Expo Acero, organized by the Association for Iron and Steel Technology (AIST México), which is being held in Veracruz for the first time. In the Tajín 3 hall of the World Trade Center, she welcomed representatives from leading steel companies and industry leaders, such as Tamsa and Tyasa, highlighting the sustained coordination between industry and government. "Today you play an important role, and, above all, in the near future, the steel industry will be key to worldwide reconstruction," she stated. She recalled that in 2020, during the COVID-19 contingency, the sector was strategic for keeping priority projects like the Dos Bocas refinery and the Maya Train operational, which mitigated the economic impact and sustained construction activity in the country. Likewise, she recognized the Secretariat of Economic and Port Development, led by Ernesto Pérez Astorga, for consolidating Veracruz as the host of this event, previously held in other states. "I am sure that this space will contribute to the collaboration, growth, and expansion of this prosperous industry," she expressed before the ribbon-cutting and the inauguration of the exhibitors' area. Meanwhile, the president of AIST México, Óscar Chahín Sanz, thanked the State Government for its support in holding Expo Acero 2026 in the entity and strengthening the sector's development. He emphasized that Veracruz is the third-largest steel producer in the country, with industrial infrastructure and a wide distribution network, positioning it as a strategic point for new investments. From March 23 to 25, Expo Acero 2026 brings together more than 160 companies in an area of 9,000 square meters and includes over 100 technical conferences, panels, and workshops, as well as a keynote lecture. The attendance of more than 4,000 participants, including specialists, companies, academics, and students, is expected, solidifying its position as the main technical forum for the sector in Mexico and Latin America.
