The 53rd edition of the Cervantino Festival will have the United Kingdom as the guest country and the government of Veracruz, as announced by Culture Secretary Claudia Curiel during the presentation held at the Scenic Forum of Chapultepec. Romain Greco was introduced as the director of the Festival. It was highlighted that in 2025, declared as the Year of Indigenous Women, the festival will seek to highlight the Afro-American communities of Veracruz. On the other hand, the United Kingdom celebrates 200 years of diplomatic relations with Mexico.
"We will take care of the traditional, the classical, and the contemporary. It will be a celebration of diversity, of minorities," mentioned Governor Libia García, who emphasized that the festival seeks to maintain its spirit of art generated by young people. Although there will be invited governments, the focus will be on local talent. According to García, "we consider culture an important element for transforming society."
British Ambassador Susannah Goshko reminisced that the cultural relationship between both nations dates back to the 19th century when miners settled in Pachuca introduced a new cultural dynamic with football. "We will bring to the audience an active program that allows us to envision a future where culture, education, and the construction of opportunities are a reality for new generations," expressed Goshko.
She also added: "The Cervantino is a natural space to show that culture is an economic and social engine, and that our creative industries must grow together. We are pleased that Cervantino has incorporated environmental sustainability to reduce the event's impact." The program will be presented in the coming months.
