The death of Paquita la del Barrio shocks Mexico

The news of the death of Paquita la del Barrio shocked not only her fans but all followers of Mexican music. The singer became a reference thanks to hits like 'Rata de dos patas', a song with a controversial history and a special dedication.

Through Paquita la del Barrio's social media, it was announced that she passed away at the age of 77. Her manager, Francisco Torres, communicated that the cause of her death was a heart attack. This event came after the artist was forced to cancel concerts due to a leg illness, as she explained in a video posted online.

"With deep pain and sadness, we confirm the passing of our beloved 'Paquita la del Barrio', in her home in Veracruz. A unique and irreplaceable artist, who will leave an indelible mark in the hearts of all who knew her and enjoyed her music," expressed a statement published on the official Instagram account of Francisca Viveros Barradas, artistically known as Paquita la del Barrio.

The song 'Rata de dos patas' became one of the most emblematic themes of the Veracruz singer, in addition to being a fundamental part of Mexican culture. Although many might associate the song with failed romances, the reality is that it was inspired by a famous politician of the nineties, Carlos Salinas de Gortari, as revealed by its author, Manuel Eduardo Toscano, in an interview in 2019.

"We had in Mexico a president whom no one dared to disrespect at that time, but as a songwriter one would say, 'well, I'm going to make this song'," Toscano commented. The theme of the song fit perfectly with the style of Paquita la del Barrio, making her the ideal interpreter without imagining the impact that 'Rata de dos patas' would have on Mexican culture.
