Zapopan Launches Second Stage of Ciclovía Project

The bike lane in the Paseos del Sol neighborhood, in Zapopan, will begin its second stage next May along Ladrón de Guevara Avenue. This project is a continuation of the first phase that started in November 2023 on Nicolás Copérnico Avenue. The Government of Zapopan will intervene in the continuation of the bike lane on Ladrón de Guevara in the section that goes from Volcán Quinceo Street to Volcán Popocatépetl.

It is expected that the new separated bike lane will remain as a lane on the far right in each direction. It will have a thickness of 20 centimeters made of ready-mix concrete, and the sidewalks will be widened. In addition, bollards or posts will be installed at some points. Three lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction, and in the central median, a linear park with concrete benches, wooden decking, railings, a pedestrian walkway, and trees will be constructed.

The works will start on May 15 and are expected to have a maximum duration of 124 days, with the completion of the second stage scheduled for September. The Government of Zapopan has launched a public bidding with a budget of 800 million pesos to carry out this project and also stages 2 and 3 of the road node on Avenida Patria and Universidad, which is planned to start on May 15 and end on November 30.

The authorities of Zapopan aim to create a total of 43.4 km of bike lanes by 2025, thus connecting Zapopan with the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area (AMG) to benefit 25 million people.
