Health authorities in Jalisco have reported an increase in gastrointestinal infections. As of the 11th week of 2026, 269 cases have been recorded, with 259 treated at the Hospitalito in Zapopan and 10 at the newly opened Hospitalito Sur. The rise is linked to increasing temperatures, which promote the proliferation of viruses and bacteria. "These cases are often related to the consumption of spoiled food or raw products like some seafood," explained specialists. The highest incidence, 31%, is among children aged one to four, while those over 65 account for 30% of cases. Experts note that children and the elderly are at a higher risk of complications, particularly dehydration. Authorities recommend frequent handwashing, avoiding raw or spoiled foods, proper refrigeration, and constant hydration. They urge the public to seek medical attention for persistent diarrhea, vomiting, or signs of dehydration.
