ENGIE Mexico Strengthens Clean Energy Leadership

ENGIE Mexico, led by Brice Clemente, aims to boost its leadership in clean energy while focusing on economic and environmental development. The company will continue expanding key projects, including the Energy Mayakan pipeline in Yucatán.

ENGIE Mexico Strengthens Clean Energy Leadership

ENGIE Mexico is preparing to consolidate its leadership in clean energy with the arrival of Brice Clemente as Country Manager starting February 1. Clemente, who previously led ENGIE's renewable energy operations in the United States, returns to the country with the mission of strengthening the group's operations, including the Ampliación Energía Mayakan project in the Yucatán Peninsula.

On the other hand, Telefónica is strategically evaluating its subsidiary in Argentina, one of the most challenging markets in Latin America. With Murtra at the helm and no prior experience in telecommunications, the company is reviewing its strategy to face the challenges in Argentina, considering potential interested buyers for the subsidiary.

The data center sector in Latin America is booming due to the growing global demand for data centers for artificial intelligence and cloud computing. Telefónica has received approaches from local and foreign investors, in a context where the company has been seeking to reduce its exposure in the region since 2019.

Despite the challenges in Argentina, where the operating environment is complicated, Marc Murtra's recent appointment as executive chairman adds expectations to the company's management in the country. ENGIE Mexico, under Clemente's leadership, is focused on continuing to strengthen its operations in a Latin American context with growth opportunities in sectors such as transportation, energy, and data infrastructure projects.

With the push for renewable energies and investment in infrastructure in the region, Latin America presents itself as an attractive destination for sustainable projects that attract foreign capital. ENGIE has consolidated its position in Mexico with solar plants and pipeline projects, and seeks to accelerate the development of clean energy in line with its strategic focus and public-private cooperation.
