Increase in Freight Theft in Mexico's Federal Highways

During the month of December, when demand and cargo influx increase, there has been a rise in toy thefts. Federal highway 57 stands out as one of the most dangerous routes for cargo transport due to the high incidence of thefts occurring on this route.

According to the 2024 security report from the cargo monitoring and security company Skyangel, the segments of Mexico-Querétaro, Querétaro-San Luis Potosí, and San Luis Potosí-Matehuala report the highest number of transport theft cases. In addition to highway 57, there are other roadways classified as the Red Triangle, which include the stretch from Córdoba to Orizaba in Veracruz and the San Luis Potosí-Guanajuato-Guadalajara highway.

According to the company's report, the participation of cartels in the theft of goods is highlighted, as they have access to information about the schedules, routes, and rest points of operators, particularly the Jalisco New Generation cartel. It is observed that the most frequently stolen products are food, beverages, construction materials, electronic products, grains, seeds, and agricultural products, which remain on the market for a significant part of the year.
