International Clean Energy Day Promotes Transition

On International Clean Energy Day, experts highlight the need for effective energy transition in Mexico, emphasizing solar and wind energy as key technologies for economic growth.

On International Clean Energy Day, experts advocate for an effective energy transition. On this date, celebrated on January 26, researcher Osvaldo Rodríguez Hernández from the UNAM Renewable Energies Institute emphasizes the importance of having more experts in clean energy and educating society about its relevance.

Rodríguez Hernández points out that, although oil has been fundamental for Mexico's economic development, wind and photovoltaic solar energy are emerging as key technologies for the future. In particular, photovoltaic solar energy converts sunlight into electricity without emitting greenhouse gases.

According to Mexican legislation, clean energies are those generated from renewable sources or with emissions within the limits established by law. Starting in 2024, UNAM will implement the elective subject "Principles of Sustainability" for all students.

The transition to clean energies is not only an environmental imperative but also an opportunity for the economic and social development of Mexico. This requires adjustments in the electrical system to improve the capacity to transport energy to consumption areas.

The "Clean Energy Progress Report 2024" from the Ministry of Energy highlights the progress in electricity generation from renewable sources in Mexico, reflecting a growing commitment from the country toward clean energies.

For the energy transition to be effective, Osvaldo Rodríguez emphasizes the need for trained professionals in the field. Environmental education, raising public awareness, and training experts are key to integrating these technologies into the national electrical system.

Renewable energies such as wind, photovoltaic solar, hydroelectric, and geothermal are fundamental for a successful transition. In Mexico, the main challenge is to integrate these energies into the national electrical system, raise public awareness about their importance, and promote environmental education at all levels.

In conclusion, the generation of clean energy is a priority for Mexico, with a notable increase in electricity generated from renewable sources in recent years. The transition to a more sustainable energy system is essential for a more prosperous and environmentally friendly future.
