The general director of the state airline, Leobardo Ávila Bojórquez, defended Mexicana de Aviación, stating that the company has not used even 7% of the resources allocated to it. Despite the criticism received for closing 8 of its 17 routes, Mexicana has lost more than 900 million pesos and has transported an average of only 53 passengers per flight.
In an interview with Azucena Uresti, Ávila highlighted that Mexicana has transported more than 421 thousand passengers with a 91% satisfaction rate from customers. He asserted that the company has had sustained quarterly growth, contributing to the economic development of the regions.
Although the number of passengers transported by Mexicana is relatively low compared to other airlines, Ávila pointed out that the company does not seek to compete directly with them, but to complement the air transport industry. Mexicana aims to have a total of 14 routes and seeks to generate connectivity to different destinations affordably.
The director of Mexicana de Aviación emphasized that the company has made responsible use of the resources allocated to it, representing only 7% of the total so far. Ávila explained that Mexicana's initial investment was 573 thousand pesos and that the brand was acquired for 407 million pesos.
Currently, Mexicana operates 11 routes and plans to resume the route to Campeche with new equipment. The recovery of routes such as Nuevo Laredo, Villahermosa, and Uruapan is being evaluated, and the reopening of Monterrey and Puerto Vallarta is expected in the second quarter of this year.
