In Mexico, many talents are emigrating to other countries in search of better opportunities, which presents a challenge in the form of brain drain. To retain and attract these professionals, it is crucial to create an ecosystem that fosters research, development, and implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions in the country. Therefore, the urgent need for a National AI Strategy is proposed.
This strategy should encompass research and development, tax incentives for companies investing in AI, as well as the creation of centers of excellence that connect academia and industry. Furthermore, the importance of establishing a regulatory framework that promotes innovation and protects citizens' rights is highlighted. Canada is cited as a model to follow, thanks to its leadership in AI achieved through well-structured public policies and solid collaboration between the government, universities, and the private sector.
On the other hand, the development of artificial intelligence in Mexico is not only related to global competitiveness but also has a direct impact on national development. AI can be an invaluable tool to address challenges in sectors such as health, education, agriculture, and security. Its implementation could improve the distribution of medical resources, personalize education, boost agricultural productivity, and increase the competitiveness of the national industry on the international stage.
The time to act is now, as Mexico has high-quality human resources, a solid industrial base, and a growing entrepreneurial ecosystem. To avoid falling behind in the global competition in the field of AI, Mexico needs coordinated action between the government, industry, and academia. Universities in the country, such as IPN, UNAM, and Tecnológico de Monterrey, are training professionals who work in international companies, while tech startups are exploring AI applications.
Mexico has the potential to position itself as a significant player in the development of AI, leveraging its skilled human capital. However, to achieve this, a joint effort between the public sector, private sector, and academia is required. In a global context dominated by significant advancements in AI, Mexico cannot remain on the sidelines if it seeks to maintain its competitiveness on a global scale.
