Mexico Introduces Plan B Against Trump's Tariffs

On Monday, February 3, during her morning conference at the National Palace, the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, presented Plan B in response to the recent actions of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who fulfilled his promise and imposed a 25% tariff on products exported from our country, directly affecting bilateral trade.

Days before, Sheinbaum had stated that her government had a Plan B to confront this situation and protect the country's interests, and for this, she instructed the head of the Secretariat of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, to implement the necessary measures.

On Monday, the details of this strategy were announced, which includes both tariff and non-tariff measures. The President highlighted that Plan B not only aims to respond to Trump's protectionist policies but also to strengthen the national economy and diversify export markets.

The President of Mexico emphasized: "It is important to have a diversified market, access routes to all markets in the world so that our country can better withstand these types of measures being taken. And basically, Plan B goes in that direction."

In response to the question of whether Plan B includes any retaliation against the measures imposed by the United States, Marcelo Ebrard mentioned that the main objective is to find solutions that benefit Mexico without entering into major conflicts, indicating that the plan aims for market diversification and strengthening the Mexican economy.

The strategy presented by the Mexican government includes concrete actions to protect Mexican exporters and minimize the impact of the tariffs imposed by the United States. With tariff and non-tariff measures, the aim is not only to counteract Trump's decisions but also to position Mexico as a strong and reliable trading partner internationally.
