The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced a pause in the increase of tariffs by the United States on Mexican products, which was praised by the Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, who highlighted the importance of economic integration between the two countries.
In statements, Ebrard emphasized that Mexico will continue to advocate for trade integration with the U.S., arguing that this relationship is vital for millions of workers, families, and businesses in both nations. He pointed out that the competitiveness of the North American region on a global level largely depends on this integration.
In a gesture of support, Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller, the wife of the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, expressed her backing for Sheinbaum: "President Sheinbaum: you are not alone, order and we will proceed." This support adds to the expressions of solidarity towards the leader in this crucial decision for the country.
Ebrard described the agreement as an "extraordinary achievement" and highlighted that the most productive Ford plant in the world is located in Mexico, specifically in Cuautitlán Izcalli, State of Mexico. The secretary mentioned that this plant exports vehicles to highly demanding markets such as Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Germany, underscoring the importance of the Mexican automotive industry in the international landscape.
On another note, Ebrard stressed that Mexico will present its arguments in favor of trade integration with the U.S. and emphasized the strategic relevance for both nations. He explained that Sheinbaum's negotiating ability was fundamental in achieving this agreement that benefits both economies. Undoubtedly, this decision represented a milestone in the trade relations between Mexico and the United States, demonstrating the importance of maintaining strategic collaboration for regional and global development.
