The Mexican government, represented by Chancellor Marcelo Ebrard, is working closely with various sectors to consolidate strategic proposals to enhance trade negotiations with the United States, eliminating the imposition of tariffs. During an event at the National Palace, Altagracia Gómez Sierra urged business leaders to take on a role of responsibility in the country's economic growth.
In this line, the head of government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, emphasized the importance of unity between the government and the private sector to face trade challenges with the neighboring nation. In a meeting held on February 4 with business leaders, she stressed that dialogue and cooperation are essential elements to stimulate economic growth and strengthen regional competitiveness.
The meeting between business leaders and President Sheinbaum took place after a one-month pause, at the request of U.S. President Donald Trump, in the initial imposition of the 25 percent tariffs scheduled for early February. Sheinbaum highlighted the importance of sovereignty and expressed the need to maintain constructive dialogue with the United States to strengthen bilateral relations.
On the other hand, Secretary of Economy Marcelo Ebrard mentioned that negotiations with the United States have opened a window of opportunity to redefine trade relations and enhance Mexico's position in the North American region. Ebrard emphasized the importance of making the most of every day in this negotiation process and highlighted the relevance of the USMCA and the Mexico Plan for the stability and competitiveness of the region.
Finally, Francisco Cervantes Díaz, president of the Coordinating Business Council, supported Sheinbaum's message and reaffirmed the commitment of the private sector to work closely with the government and ensure the success of trade negotiations with the United States and Canada. In a clear message of support, Cervantes mentioned the CCE's willingness to actively participate in trade discussions and cooperation.
In summary, the cooperation between the government, the private sector, and various involved actors aims to strengthen trade relations and maintain constructive dialogue with the United States, in pursuit of growth and competitiveness for Mexico at the regional level and beyond.
