The municipality of El Marqués in Mexico is in the final phase of construction of the Saldarriaga wastewater treatment plant, aiming to contribute to the sanitation of the Querétaro River. This project is part of the second stage of intervention in the river, which will cover 3.5 kilometers and involve an investment of approximately 5 million pesos.
According to the local mayor, Rodrigo Monsalvo, the Saldarriaga plant is almost ready but has not yet been put into operation due to technical problems at the Los Héroes plant, belonging to the State Water Commission (CEA). Once the issues at the CEA plant are resolved, the Saldarriaga plant will be operational to help sanitize water from the Devil Dam to La Cañada before reintegrating it into the river.
The mayor stated: "Right now, we are about to conclude the treatment plant to sanitize the water and have irrigation quality, but we are only waiting on the CEA because the CEA is having issues with their Heroes treatment plant, not ours. So, once that's settled, we are in discussions with the CEA, and we should finally fulfill that commitment that has been asked of us, which is well advanced."
For the construction of the Saldarriaga treatment plant, the municipality has allocated 117 million pesos, demonstrating commitment and investment in improving infrastructure for environmental sanitation in the region.
