Private aviation in Mexico has experienced steady growth in recent years, driven in part by the pandemic which increased demand for private flights seeking safety and flexibility. William Da Silva, CEO of Global Jet Set, pointed out that since 2019, private aviation in Mexico has grown by 25% due to the cancellation of commercial flights and the need to avoid large crowds of passengers.
Da Silva also highlighted that the organization of high-profile events, such as the Super Bowl or Formula 1, has generated significant demand for private flights, with around 500 clients traveling from Mexico to these events, many of them in groups of friends who rent a private jet to enjoy the flexibility and speed of the service.
In Mexico, prices for private flights range from $500 to $3,000 dollars per seat on popular routes such as Mexico City-Cancun or Monterrey-Miami, making them a viable option for different traveler profiles. Another growing trend is subscription rental or Jet Cards, where clients pay for flight hours instead of acquiring an aircraft.
Access to private aviation has been facilitated with models like shared flights, where passengers can purchase a seat on a private jet without having to rent the entire aircraft. According to a report by Alea Digital Group, renting flight hours is democratizing access to this type of transport, as less than 1% of the population has the capacity to buy a private jet.
Regarding security and immigration, private flights offer reduced times ranging from five to ten minutes from arrival at the terminal. Mexico has positioned itself as the second-largest private aviation market globally, with a fleet of nearly two thousand aircraft and sustained growth in demand for private flights due to its geographical location and economic factors.
The future of private aviation in Mexico will depend on technological innovation, accessibility, and regulation of the sector. Continuous growth in the market is expected, especially considering projections for 2025, as long as sustainable options are offered to minimize the carbon footprint. The busiest months in Mexico for private flights are usually December and January, due to the holidays and trips to destinations like Vail and Utah for skiing.
