The Ancestral restaurant, located across from the renovated Malecón of Villahermosa, has decided to temporarily suspend its activities due to the wave of violence in Tabasco. In a message posted on social media, the owners expressed their sorrow in making this decision, prioritizing their peace and tranquility in light of the insecurity affecting the region.
"Today we decided to close temporarily. Our peace and tranquility are worth more than any situation. Unfortunately, there is no one to protect us and even less to trust," the restaurant's statement reads. This measure is part of a series of establishments that have halted operations or adjusted hours since an armed attack took place in a nightclub in the hotel zone of the Tabasco capital in November 2024, leaving six people dead.
The Tabasco government has been emphatic in pointing out that the violence in the region has not reached the extent that some media suggest and has assured that measures are being implemented to safeguard security in the state. The Secretary of Government, José Ramiro "Pepín" López Obrador, has stated that the dispute between two criminal groups over drug sales control generates violence in the area, although he reiterated that insecurity is more of a media issue than a real one.
In this context, the Mexican Red Cross organized the event "We Are All Heroes," where López Obrador mentioned the absence of Governor Javier May in the entity due to a meeting in Mexico City with the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch. Likewise, the president of Concanaco Servytur Mexico, Octavio de la Torre de Steffano, emphasized during his visit to Tabasco the urgency of resolving the insecurity situation due to its negative impact on the local economy and on the lives of citizens.
