Mexican Petroleum (Pemex), with the support of the Ministry of Energy and Finance, has carried out significant work on reviewing its financial debt. President Claudia Sheinbaum highlighted that Pemex's debt has special treatment from the Ministry of Finance, allowing for more efficient planning. She also mentioned that the debt and pending litigations have been reviewed, ensuring that payments to suppliers are real and fair.
Regarding Pemex's total debt, which currently stands at 97 billion dollars, Sheinbaum explained that it has been significantly reduced from the previous 114 billion. Progress has been made in paying suppliers, with nearly 75 billion pesos already paid, and it is expected to conclude the rest of the debt in the coming months, following an established program.
President Sheinbaum also addressed the issue of salinity and water in the crude sold by Pemex, noting that it is a common condition in oil companies worldwide and that there is a technical solution. On the other hand, Luz Elena González, Secretary of Energy, mentioned that financial debt has been reduced without failing to meet Pemex's obligations, highlighting a thorough review of the company's liabilities.
Despite the challenges, Pemex has managed to make progress in managing its debt during the administration of Andrés Manuel López Obrador. It is important to highlight that the payment of all the company's financial obligations has been guaranteed, which has allowed for a gradual reduction of the outstanding debt.
