The Public Registry of Users (REUS) is a tool that allows blocking promotional calls from banks, insurers, retirement funds, and telephone companies in Mexico, although it does not guarantee the elimination of collection calls, political surveys, or charity calls. To register in the REUS, users can do so for free via the internet, in person, or by phone, following the steps on the website of the National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services (Condusef).
The REUS is the Public Registry of Users that stores the personal information of individuals within the Mexican financial system who wish to avoid receiving promotions and advertising from various companies. According to the Official Diary of the Federation, it is possible to register home, work, and mobile phone numbers by presenting an official identification, a phone bill, and an email address. To block phone calls, individuals can contact the Condusef's call center.
Another alternative to avoid advertising calls is the Public Registry to Avoid Advertising (REPEP), managed by Profeco, which protects consumers' rights not to be disturbed by unwanted advertising. This registry allows free registration of fixed and mobile phone numbers and aims to prevent individuals from being approached with calls or text messages for advertising purposes.
Advertising calls can be intrusive, especially when they come from unsolicited services. There are two mechanisms, REUS and REPEP, provided by the Federal Government of Mexico, to help manage these situations. Once registered in the REPEP, intrusive brand calls are avoided for 30 calendar days.
