Infonavit to Launch Housing Construction in April

The National Housing Fund Institute for Workers (Infonavit) has scheduled to start the construction of houses in April, as revealed by Octavio Romero Oropeza, director of the organization, during the morning conference on Friday, February 28. This will take place thanks to the approval of the Infonavit reform that will establish a social housing construction company with a leasing scheme, called Infonavit Constructora.

The creation of Infonavit Constructora will allow the construction of at least half a million homes during the six-year term. Romero Oropeza stated that invitations for the formation of the administration councils and the approval of budgets have already been published. The construction company is expected to begin works starting April 1.

Infonavit already has reserved land in 29 states, covering around 133 plots that total 424 hectares. These lands have the potential for more than 73,000 homes, representing 89% of the target set for this year. It is planned that 13,000 homes will begin construction in April, 53,000 units will be added in May, and another 7,300 in June.

The Infonavit reform, published on February 21, will involve significant changes in the institute. Among the modifications is the creation of the construction company of the organization to build social homes under a rental regime, along with the installation of the Administration Council of Infonavit Constructora. The renewal of the General Assembly and the Administration Council of Infonavit will also take place, as well as the allocation of resources for the operation and investment of the new construction company.
