Nuevo León Announces Economic Measures to Combat Tariffs

The governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García, presented a package of economic measures to support local businesses in light of the potential imposition of tariffs by the United States on Mexican products. The plan came into effect on March 4, coinciding with the implementation of taxes by President Donald Trump.

The main objective of these measures is to maintain Nuevo León as a leader in job and business creation, minimizing the negative impact of tariffs. García stated that the plan has been designed to support and promote business development in the state.

The package of measures was developed in collaboration with the secretariats of Economy and Finance and Treasury, and also involved the participation of business chambers. It is structured around six fundamental pillars.

The first pillar focuses on strengthening the Made in Nuevo León program and promoting the consumption of local products, as well as facilitating the registration of trademarks and barcodes. The second pillar aims to develop productive chains in strategic sectors with the goal of integrating SMEs into the value chains of large companies.

The third pillar is directed at defending the local market and exploring alternative markets, including alliances with U.S. authorities to eliminate tariffs and the search for new markets in Europe and Asia. The fourth pillar focuses on financing through both state programs and Bancomext, with particular attention to the tourism sector.

The plan also includes the digitization and simplification of procedures and the acceleration of infrastructure projects, including public works and new Metro lines. Support will be sought from the Federal Government on tax issues to facilitate exports.

Samuel García highlighted the importance of these measures to ensure the continuity of economic growth in Nuevo León and assured that the state will overcome this economic crisis, just as it has faced previous challenges.
