Chedraui Closes Distribution Centers in California

Grupo Chedraui, led by José Antonio Chedraui, has made the decision to close three of its five distribution centers in California as part of a strategy to optimize its operations in the United States. The company has opened a new Distribution Center (Cedi) in Rancho Cucamonga aimed at improving transportation and storage efficiency, pursuing benefits for the year 2026.

In 2023, businessman Zaga Tawil was accused of organized crime and money laundering due to a compensation of 5 billion 88 million pesos received by his company Telra after ending a contract with Infonavit in 2017. Zaga Tawil claims that one billion pesos of that compensation were illegally delivered to his partners by Actinver, the financial entity involved in the case.

The conflict has reached an amount exceeding 1.5 billion pesos, as Actinver is accused of violating banking and fiduciary regulations in Mexico to the detriment of Zaga Tawil. The case has reached the First Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, whose voting has been postponed indefinitely following a legal dispute raised by Actinver, which alleged possible conflicts of interest against some ministers.

For his part, Zaga Tawil believes that this postponement constitutes an attempt to avoid a judicial resolution, pointing out that the case is an illegal act aimed at obstructing the administration of justice. Despite the legal obstacles, the outcome of this matter remains an unknown that generates expectation in the banking and fiduciary industry of the country.
