A new study offers keys for synchronizing schedules between different countries, which allows for better functioning in commercial and social activities. In particular, cities like Tijuana and Ciudad Juárez maintain a high level of cross-border interaction that requires an aligned schedule to facilitate trade and the mobility of their residents.
This Sunday, March 9, 2025, daylight saving time begins in several municipalities in the border region of Mexico. Residents of these municipalities will need to set their clocks forward one hour, and daylight saving time will be in effect until November 2, 2025. This measure aims to maintain synchronization with neighboring cities in the United States, thus facilitating commercial and work activities between both countries.
The Mexican states and municipalities that will change to daylight saving time on March 9 are Baja California (Tijuana, Rosarito, Tecate, Ensenada, Mexicali), Chihuahua (Coyame del Sotol, Ojinaga, Manuel Benavides, Janos, Ascensión, Ciudad Juárez, Praxedis G. Guerrero, Guadalupe), Coahuila (Acuña, Allende, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Jiménez, Morelos, Nava, Ocampo, Piedras Negras, Villa Unión, Zaragoza), Nuevo León (Anáhuac) and Tamaulipas (Nuevo Laredo, Guerrero, Mier, Miguel Alemán, Camargo, Gustavo Díaz Ordaz, Reynosa, Río Bravo, Valle Hermoso and Matamoros).
Most states in Mexico do not make this time adjustment due to the elimination of daylight saving time at the national level in 2022, arguing that its benefits were minimal and affected the health of the population. However, the aforementioned municipalities maintain daylight saving time mainly due to their proximity to the United States.
To adapt to the time change, some recommendations are proposed, such as gradually adjusting your schedule a few days before the change, maintaining a conducive sleeping environment that is dark and quiet, avoiding caffeine and screens before bed to facilitate adaptation to the new schedule. If you live in any of the mentioned municipalities, remember to adjust your clock and plan your activities according to the new time.
