New Secretary of Finance Assumes Role Amid Economic Challenges

The new Secretary of Finance and Public Credit, Edgar Amador Zamora, has been welcomed with expectations by the private sector in Mexico. Following the exhaustion of the previous holder, there is confidence in Amador to boost the country's economic growth above 2% without making budget adjustments. Various business organizations, such as the Business Coordinating Council, have praised the appointment of Amador Zamora, highlighting his experience, vision, and ability to strengthen public finances.

The Confederation of Employers of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) and the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism of Mexico City have expressed their willingness to collaborate with Amador on key issues such as economic growth, informality, and a possible deep tax reform. The new Secretary is expected to be inclined towards dialogue with the private sector and to focus on resolving pending issues, such as low economic growth and high informality.

Despite facing a challenging economic scenario with economic deceleration and limited fiscal space, experts trust that Amador Zamora will meet the fiscal consolidation objectives set for the year 2025. His pragmatic ability, active listening, and intelligence in addressing the upcoming fiscal and financial challenges are highlighted. As noted by Fausto Hernández, an academic at CIDE, Amador will carry out his new responsibility in a complex international environment that requires experience and political skill.
